The 2012-13 season will hit far closer to home for New York Knicks fans than 2008-09. It wasn’t just a year of Carmelo Anthony achieving individual success; it was an all-around brilliant display by the Knicks.

Before getting into what he did for the team, it’s imperative to note that Anthony had the best individual season of his NBA career following the 2012 Olympics.

Anthony finished 2012-13 with averages of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.0 offensive boards, 2.6 assists, and 2.3 3-point field goals made per game. He shot 44.9 percent from the field, 37.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 83.0 percent from the free throw line.

In turn, Anthony was named to the All-NBA Second Team, won the scoring title, and received a vote for MVP.

Anthony made 157 3-point field goals in 2012-13, which was his career-high until 2013-14. The incredible reality of that number is that, prior to 2012-13, he’d never converted more than 69 3-point field goals in a single season.

2012-13 is a shining example of how playing for Team USA has motivated Anthony to raise his individual game.
