This is where the intrigue should pick up for New York Knicks fans. It’s not just that Carmelo Anthony went off when he got to the 2009 NBA Playoffs with the Denver Nuggets; it’s the success he led his team to.

Both in the regular season and the postseason, Anthony turned Olympic success into NBA glory.

Anthony helped lead the Nuggets to a record of 54-28. For perspective, the Nuggets went 45-21 with Anthony—a win percentage of .682—and 9-7 during the 16 games he missed—a win percentage of .563.

That 54-win campaign was good enough for the Nuggets to win the Northwest Division title and secure the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.

Once Denver reached the NBA Playoffs, its success continued. Anthony scored 34 points to close out the New Orleans Hornets in Round 1, and averaged 30.0 points per game as Denver defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Anthony then averaged 27.5 points per game as Denver took the eventual champion Los Angeles Lakers to six games in the Western Conference Finals. Quite a run.
