Carmelo Anthony has made Olympic history. During his fourth and final run with USA Basketball at the Summer Games, Anthony became the first male basketball player to win three Olympic gold medals.

New York Knicks fans are proud, but there should be an additional mental attitude at The Mecca: optimism.

Anthony has a great history of following an Olympic gold medal with an explosive season. That’s a trend throughout the NBA, as surrounding one’s self with the best of the best often leads to an improvement in work ethic and personal standards.

Anthony will now look to carry the momentum gained in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil back into New York City.

The Knicks have revamped and reloaded with a number of key offseason acquisitions. Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis will be surrounded by the likes of Derrick Rose, Courtney Lee, Joakim Noah, and Brandon Jennings.

The question is: why exactly should you be so excited about what the immediate future holds for the Knicks? It all starts with the gold medal.
