3. Pacing

The single most difficult trait to find in a point guard is an ability to control the pace of a game. Some of the most gifted playmakers in the world struggle with that generally elusive trait.

For whatever you may feel he lacks in other areas, Chaz Williams does an outstanding job of pacing the offense.

Williams maintained an assist-to-turnover ratio above 2.0 in each of his final two seasons at UMass. That only begins to scratch the surface of what makes him so special as a facilitator.

Whether or not he gets the assist, Williams knows when to pick up the pace and when the game needs to slow down.

At the 2016 RBA Showcase, every team hit patches in which the offense got out of control—except Williams’ Navy Blue squad. When the team played reckless, the ball would find Williams’ hands and the game would slow down.

That’s a sign of his advanced understanding of the game and a skill that the Westchester Knicks should explore.
