Happy Birthday, Kristaps Porzingis: Top 5 Gifts To The Knicks Thus Far
5. Future Finals Preview?
It’s no secret that the Minnesota Timberwolves have one of the most promising rosters in the NBA. Karl-Anthony Towns won Rookie of the Year in 2016, Andrew Wiggins did so in 2015, and revered head coach Tom Thibodeau is ready to lead the charge.
On Wednesday, December 16, fans received a preview of what a future NBA Finals or two could look like.
Towns finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds on 11-of-22 shooting, and Wiggins posted 23 points and five boards. It was Arron Afflalo with 29 points and Carmelo Anthony with 20 who led the Knicks in scoring, but it was Kristaps Porzingis who dominated.
Towns and Wiggins got their offense, but the Knicks won 107-102—and you can thank Porzingis for that.
Porzingis only recorded 11 points and six rebounds on 4-of-14 shooting in 29 minutes, but that wasn’t the story. He sent shots flying in the opposite direction on a consistent basis, recording a career-high seven blocks—many of which were against Towns and Wiggins.
Even when his shot isn’t falling, Porzingis can take over a game—the most telling sign of a transcendent big man.
