5. Escaping The Depths of Despair

Carmelo Anthony may be the face of the franchise today, but it was Amar’e Stoudemire who led the New York Knicks’ return to relevance. He had a sensational 2010-11 season, which will be touched upon in a future slide.

The moment that undeniably deserves to make this list, however, was achieved during a road game on February 27, 2011 against the Miami Heat.

Stoudemire had the Knicks at 28-26 at the time of the trade for Anthony. That had New York just one win shy of the win total it accumulated during the previous season, which is reason enough to thank STAT for his time and services.

After getting to 29 wins on February 23, the Knicks made a statement on February 27 by reaching the 30-win plateau with a victory over the Big Three.

Stoudemire recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds on 8-of-14 shooting as New York pulled out a 91-86 victory. The win moved it to 30-27, which was a far cry from the 29-53 record it’d recorded in 2009-10.

Though 30 wins may not seem like an otherworldly achievement, but it was a symbolic moment that New York had officially escaped the gutter.
