New York Knicks: Carmelo Anthony Is A True Leader
The Vocal Leader
As Phil Jackson alluded to, Carmelo Anthony isn’t the type of player who’s going to use his voice to lead his teammates. That narrative was true for most of Anthony’s career, and even he would acknowledge as much.
According to Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski, Anthony has grown into the role of a vocal leader. Per Taylor Bern of USAB.com:
"“He’s been on three of the teams that I’ve coached and we have a close-knit relationship,” said Krzyzewski, who called Anthony the vocal leader of this year’s team."
Anthony’s Team USA teammates echoed the sentiment:
Times have changed.
Anthony is playing on a Team USA squad that features some of the biggest names in the NBA. Though many of his age-based peers dropped out of the Olympics, the likes of Jimmy Butler, Kevin Durant, Paul George, Draymond Green, and Kyrie Irving remain.
Despite the presence of that undeniable power, it’s Anthony who’s being viewed as the vocal leader.
This falls right in line with the growth that Anthony has achieved in other phases of his game. Now a vocal leader who builds chemistry off the court and trusts his teammates on it, Anthony is a true leader.
The progress he’s made is rounded out by the incredible man that Anthony has become away from basketball.
