Kevin Martin, UFA

Position: Shooting Guard
Age: 33 (2/1/1983)
Slash Line: .372/.360/.890
Season Averages: 19.9 MPG, 9.3 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 1.1 APG, 0.9 3PM

Kevin Martin isn’t the slasher or all-around scoring threat that he was during his earlier seasons. What he remains, however, is a sharpshooting off-guard who can help space the floor and get to the charity stripe.

Justin Holiday is regarded by most as the safe bet to be the backup shooting guard, but Martin could provide valuable depth.

Martin is a career 38.4 percent shooter from 3-point range with 1,141 3-point field goals made in 12 seasons. 2015-16 was a rough year for Martin, but that goes well beyond the basic statistical evaluation.

Martin lost his starting job at shooting guard to Andrew Wiggins—an inevitability, and not an indictment of Martin.

The question is, how much more does Martin have left in the tank? He’s been a high-volume scorer for most of his career, but at 33 years of age, he may now be better suited for a role as an off-ball shooter.

If Martin is willing to step in as a specialist instead of a featured player, then he could help the Knicks make a return to the playoffs in 2016-17.
