From 2013 to 2015, Gerald Green played for the Phoenix Suns. His head coach during that time was Jeff Hornacek, who was hired by Phil Jackson to be the head coach of the New York Knicks this past June.

Though Hornacek and Gerald Green weren’t the best of bedfellows, if they’re willing to put their differences aside, this signing would be wise.

The Knicks have a number of quality backups at shooting guard and small forward, including Lance Thomas, Justin Holiday, and Mindaugas Kuzminskas. All three are quality players, but New York needs shooters at the 2 and the 3.

Green certainly qualifies as such, and he’d provide the added benefit of explosive athleticism—an element that some feel was lost with the departure of Derrick Williams.

Green has a career average of 1.3 3-point field goals made on 36.1 percent shooting from beyond the arc. In two seasons under Hornacek, he averaged 14.0 points, and made 341 3-point field goals on 38.0 percent shooting from distance.

The question is, can Green and Hornacek remain on the same page? If so, the Knicks should look into this signing.
