The New York Knicks aren’t exactly starving for power forwards or centers. Kristaps Porzingis and Joakim Noah are the full-time starters, Carmelo Anthony and Lance Thomas can play the 4, and Willy Hernangomez, Kyle O’Quinn, and Marshall Plumlee provide depth at the 5.
Kevin Seraphin is friends with Porzingis, however, and became familiar with the Triangle Offense during his 2015-16 tenure with the Knicks.
Seraphin and Porzingis being friends makes this an easy decision from a team chemistry perspective. New York is committed to developing Porzingis into the best player he can be, and a major part of that is surrounding him with pieces that complement him well.
The obvious hurdle here, however, is that Seraphin would be joining a roster that doesn’t offer him much room for growth.
Hernangomez is the long-term answer at center, and Noah is locked up for four years. Plumlee is on a three-year deal with a guaranteed first season, as well, which leaves very few minutes for Seraphin to win.
If Seraphin is willing to take a one-year deal, however, his defense and friendship with Porzingis could be valuable.
