Darius Adams

If Phil Jackson has proven anything over the past two years, it’s that he loves Spain’s Liga ACB. He found Kristaps Porzingis and Willy Hernangomez at Baloncesto Sevilla, and recently signed Mindaugas Kuzminskas from Unicaja.

This past summer, a lesser-known Liga ACB alum took center stage at Summer League: Baskonia point guard Darius Adams.

He’s worth considering.

Adams broke out in Germany in 2013-14, when he won the BBL Best Offensive Player award. He’s spent the past two seasons in Spain, where he’s emerged as a dynamic playmaker who can put the ball on the floor.

In 2015-16, Adams averaged 17.2 points in 25.1 minutes in Liga ACB, and 13.2 points and 4.0 assists in Euroleague play.

Adams has improved his 3-point shooting, which creates the foundation for his discovering success under Jeff Hornacek. He’s also proven proficient in operating the pick-and-roll, which is a prominent play in Hornacek’s system.

This is the very definition of a low-risk, high-reward type of signing, and that’s why New York should seriously consider it.
