Honorable Mention: Ron Baker

Ron Baker isn’t a free agent point guard, but instead a New York Knicks player on a partially guaranteed deal. The reason he’s being included on this list is because the Knicks haven’t yet committed to starting the season with him on the roster.

Though Baker is admittedly more of a shooting guard, he has the ability to handle the ball and facilitate in a pinch.

The backup point guard is more of a sixth man who helps the second unit provide stability behind the starters. They don’t need to be an elite facilitator or playmaker, but instead an all-around offensive threat who’s capable of creating for others.

Baker certainly fits the bill as an excellent 3-point shooter who can run the pick-and-roll and make plays in transition.

Baker has a lot of Jeff Hornacek in his game in the sense that he can alternate between aggressively scoring, facilitating, and playing off-ball. Considering Hornacek is the Knicks’ coach, this is a perfect match.

Baker is already on a partially guarantee contract, but the Knicks should give serious thought to keeping him around long-term.
