The New York Knicks are embracing Summer League as a tool for long-term evaluation. Though very few members of the roster will be a product of said event, the front office is still valuing it as a recruiting and evaluating tool.

That became quite evident on Wednesday, July 13, when a Summer League standout was signed to the main roster.

Maurice Ndour was the standout performer for the Knicks’ 2015 Summer League team. Following that sensational showing, many expected New York to sign Ndour to the main roster—a dream that never came to fruition in 2015.

According to international basketball reporter David Pick, the Knicks have signed Ndour to a guaranteed two-year deal.

Ndour confirmed the move on his official Instagram account.

This signing is a year in the making.

Ndour spent the 2015-16 season with Real Madrid of Spain’s vaunted Liga ACB. Though he didn’t find the court very often, he played and practiced with one of the most respected clubs on the European basketball scene.

That alone kept him relevant and on the Knicks’ radar.

A year removed from New York’s failure—or refusal—to sign Ndour, he’s made the decision to join the Knicks. On a guaranteed two-year deal, there’s a clear desire to see his development through.

It took longer than expected, but Ndour has finally been signed by the Knicks—and this is why you should love the Ndour signing.
