Con: Defensive Inconsistency

As previously alluded to, Chasson Randle has the potential for greatness on the defensive end. Though his size and frame are relatively average, he has the length to develop into an excellent defender.

Though he’s clearly capable of becoming so, Randle hasn’t yet proven to be consistent on the defensive end of the floor.

Randle does an acceptable job of playing the passing lanes, but for a player with his length, he should be better. He’s done an excellent job in this regard during Summer League, but that’s a small sample size.

Even if Randle continues to display some inconsistency on defense, New York would need him to put his length to better use in creating turnovers.

As an on-ball defender, Randle has the length and quickness to remain in front of most point guards. That’s where most of his inconsistency comes into play, however, as his focus has been known to wander.

The potential is there, but along with it is inconsistency that cannot be dismissed or ignored.
