New York Knicks: Pros And Cons Of Signing Chasson Randle
Con: Positional Ambiguity
For as intriguing a player as Chasson Randle may be, there’s a fair question about which position he’s meant to play. He’s undersized for a shooting guard, and isn’t exactly the most reliable facilitator.
The potential exists for Randle to develop into a point guard at the next level, but that’s far from a sure thing.
Randle has looked good as both a shooter and facilitator in Summer League, but that isn’t the safest of signs. Summer League competition isn’t always NBA-caliber competition, which is why statistics shouldn’t always be taken at face value.
It’s also worth noting that Randle averaged 2.5 assists to 2.3 turnovers during his four-year career at Stanford.
The upside is that Jeff Hornacek’s system helped combo guards Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic become star-caliber players. The bad news is that Randle isn’t nearly as experienced as Bledsoe and Dragic were when they arrived in Phoenix.
Randle has upside worth exploring, but it needs to be stated and established that his position has yet to be defined.
