Knicks Rumors: Reasons To Love The Sasha Vujacic Re-Signing
1. The Porzingis Factor
The future of the New York Knicks is resting squarely on the shoulders of 20-year-old phenom Kristaps Porzingis. Carmelo Anthony is the current face of the franchise—a distinction he’s earned—but long-term, it’s Porzingis who will lead New York.
Given the all-hands-on-deck approach to helping Porzingis achieve greatness, re-signing Sasha Vujacic becomes much easier to support.
In October of 2015, Porzingis singled out Vujacic as one of the players whom he considers a mentor. It caught some by surprise, but if Vujacic is helping Porzingis adjust to life in the NBA, then keeping him around makes sense.
Keep in mind, Vujacic and Porzingis traveled similar paths by going from the European ranks to the NBA.
Porzingis is the future face of the franchise, and developing him should be the top priority. Whether New York wins a championship in 2016 or 2026, the plan is for Porzingis to play a major role in that pursuit of immortality.
Thus, while Vujacic may have his critics, one can’t help but feel optimistic about a signing that keeps Porzingis’ morale high.
