Key Strength: 3-Point Shooting

It’s been stated before that the New York Knicks are running a system that depends quite heavily on spacing. The reality is, every system requires an adequate form of spacing, with Jeff Hornacek’s offense merely emphasizing it more than most.

If only one of Ron Baker’s skills project to translate from the college game to the NBA, it’s his 3-point shooting.

Over the course of his four-year career, Baker converted 242 3-point field goals in 124 games. He converted 36.9 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc, never dipping below 35.0 percent and twice exceeding 38.0.

In a system that will enable him to play both on and off-ball, Baker should be able to thrive as a shooter under head coach Jeff Hornacek.

For the Knicks, the backcourt is currently flush with players who are solid, but not spectacular shooters. Courtney Lee is as consistent as they come, but Justin Holiday is unproven, Brandon Jennings is streaky, and Derrick Rose is inconsistent.

If Baker can provide a consistent shooting stroke as a fourth guard, the 2016-17 Knicks would be a better team because of it.
