The selection of Willy Hernangomez at the 2015 NBA Draft has been the most overlooked move made by the Phil Jackson regime. A European sensation with little traction on the mainstream NBA scene, Hernangomez wasn’t exactly a marquee acquisition.

The fact that the New York Knicks landed Hernangomez in the second round created even less hype.

True as that may be, Hernangomez is one of the better acquisitions of the Jackson era. He may never pan out, but his upside is tremendous as a young and hungry center who can provide a consistently positive impact in the half court.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the Knicks have agreed to terms on a multi-year deal with Hernangomez.

Per Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the deal will be fully guaranteed.

Though it’s been far more overlooked than any other offseason move, the Hernangomez signing could be vital to future success.

Hernangomez is a 6’11” center with a strong 255-pound frame and a near 7’2″ wingspan. He spent this past season behind many of Real Madrid’s more established players, but became a star, of sorts, as the starting center for Baloncesto Sevilla from 2013 to 2015.

Yes, that Baloncesto Sevilla.

As the Knicks prepare to bring Hernangomez over, the possibilities are endless. It’s entirely fair to believe that he could be a bust, but there’s legitimate upside that’s going to be explored by Jeff Hornacek and the Knicks.

The question is, what about the Hernangomez signing should you be loving?
