3. 3-Point Shooting

The New York Knicks are preparing to run a system that embraces the evolution of the game. Previously opposed to shooting a high number of 3-point field goals, the Knicks are now willing to shoot within reason.

Players like Mindaugas Kuzminskas tend to make it easier to let the ball fly from beyond the arc.

Kuzminskas isn’t yet a knockdown 3-point shooter, but he’s very comfortable in catch-and-shoot situations. He does an excellent job of maintaining consistent form off the catch, and has range beyond the 3-point line.

Role players must be able to hit the 3-ball when the stars defer, and Kuzminskas is certainly capable of meeting that expectation.

A major part of that consistency is the danger of Kuzminskas being able to put the ball on the floor if an opponent commits to a closeout.

In 2015-16, Kuzminskas made an average of 1.1 3-point field goals on 33.9 percent shooting from distance. That includes the 23 games he played at Euroleague 2016, when he converted 1.3 3-point field goals per game on 37.7 percent shooting.

Kuzminskas has been steadily improving throughout his career, and few developments are quite as significant as his potentially elite shooting touch.
