1. Leadership

The 2016-17 New York Knicks will feature a number of moving pieces. Carmelo Anthony has improved his leadership skills, and Kristaps Porzingis has a good head on his shoulders, but New York needs a player who can keep a locker room of new teammates together.

No matter what happens on the court, there’s no way around the fact that Joakim Noah is one of the most respected leaders in the NBA.

As previously alluded to, Noah is friends with both Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose—the two biggest names on the roster. Noah is loved by his teammates, and having the support of the other leaders on the roster make the rest of the locker room more receptive to his leadership style.

If the Chicago Bulls’ consistent overachievement over the past four seasons proved anything, it’s that Noah knows how to keep his teammates focused and motivated.

If a player decides to take a few plays off defensively, Noah will be in their ear—star or otherwise. If the Knicks are facing a time of adversity, Noah will shoulder the blame and carry the burden to make life easier for his teammates.

Through and through, Noah is the perfect teammate and a quintessential leader for a New York basketball team.
