2. Championship Experience

The New York Knicks need to get back to the playoffs, and anything short of fulfilling that goal would be a failure. While he may not be as individually influential as he once was, Pau Gasol can help the Knicks achieve that goal.

For a team that already has three established pieces in Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis, and Derrick Rose, Gasol can be of critical aid in the cultivation of a winning culture.

Gasol won a pair of championship rings as an All-NBA force on the 2009 and 2010 Los Angeles Lakers. His head coach during that time was Phil Jackson, and the featured star was two-time scoring champion Kobe Bryant.

Jackson is now team president of the Knicks, and Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose have been tasked with doing their best joint impression of Bryant.

Beyond his championship success is the consistency with which Gasol has appeared on the grandest of stages. He’s made three NBA Finals appearances and 10 trips to the playoffs, accumulating 115 games of postseason experience.

New York needs a winner, and adding a decorated champion like Gasol is exactly what the locker room is longing for.
