2. Fan Favorite

It may sound cynical, but a sports organization should not build its roster based on what the fans want to see. Executives earned their respective positions by being able to see things that most cannot.

The reality is, the presence of a fan favorite tends to create an infectious and untamable energy at Madison Square Garden.

The Garden is always a place to be, but it’s never greater than when the fans have someone to get behind. Love or hate the rest of his game, Lin has an uncanny ability to bring Madison Square Garden to its feet.

Pairing Lin with fellow fan favorite Kristaps Porzingis would create an atmosphere of unfiltered excitement at The Mecca of Basketball.

One could make a case that the likes of Carmelo Anthony and Derrick Rose will be tasked with breathing life into the lungs of The Mecca. As the established stars, however, they’ll be expected to perform; it’s when the unexpected players contribute that New York truly goes wild.

Whether he performs the lines of Linsanity, John Starks, or Steve Novak, Lin can rejuvenate the passion of the local crowd at home games.
