Honorable Mentions

Bismack Biyombo, UFA

  • Bismack Biyombo was one of the breakout stars of the 2016 NBA Playoffs. An elite athlete who dominates the glass and blocks shots, many believe Biyombo could make upwards of $15 million per season. If that’s the case, then the New York Knicks may be best to back off. If he can be had for a more affordable contract, however, then the 23-year-old Biyombo’s upside could be worth investing in.

Ian Mahinmi, UFA

  • Ian Mahinmi is one of the best kept secrets in the NBA. The 29-year-old Frenchman is a rugged defender who competes on both ends of the floor and gives a strong effort on the offensive glass. Unfortunately, he falls into the same class as Biyombo as a player who’s on the cusp of being overpaid. For the New York Knicks, it wouldn’t be worth entering a bidding war.

Timofey Mozgov, UFA

  • TImofey Mozgov played for the New York Knicks in 2010-11, which creates the base line for negotiations. Since his tenure in New York, he’s become one of the better defensive centers in the NBA. He stabilized the Cleveland Cavaliers’ interior in 2014-15, and played a big role in the 2015 NBA Finals. If he can be had for an affordable cost, Mozgov would be a smart addition.
