As the New York Knicks ponder the future of the organization, re-signing restricted free agent Langston Galloway should be a priority.
The New York Knicks are rapidly approaching the most influential summer in franchise history. Incomparable pressure exists to build a postseason-caliber roster around Carmelo Anthony, and anything less than a productive summer would put Phil Jackson on the ultimate hot seat.
All eyes are understandably focused on the fresh faces New York will target in 2016, but there’s one player whom the Knicks should prioritize re-signing: Langston Galloway.
Galloway’s first 10-day contract with the Knicks was announced on January 6, 2015. Since making his NBA debut on January 8, 2015 against the Washington Wizards, Galloway has been active for every one of the Knicks’ 127 regular season games.
Though not a star on the rise, the general consensus about Galloway is that he plays hard and contributes positive minutes.
Galloway, 24, finished the 2015-16 season with averages of 7.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 3-point field goals in 24.8 minutes of action. It wasn’t the most statistically prolific season of all-time, but there were reasons for intrigue.
New York’s top priority will be finding impact players, but once that search has concluded, re-signing Galloway should be near the top of the agenda.
