POWER FORWARDS

Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony’s resume speaks for itself: nine-time NBA All-Star, two-time All NBA Second Team, four-time All NBA Third Team, 2013 scoring champion, Olympic bronze and gold medalist.

Anthony is now chasing the one thing that would round out his resume: an NBA Championship.

For better or worse, the Knicks and Anthony have tied the knot. Phil Jackson signed Anthony to a five-year near max deal. Anthony, now one year removed from major knee surgery, and 32 years old, is at the tail end of his prime.

That being said, he still is in his prime. When Anthony had a good supporting cast, he didn’t have to carry the team on his back. The same year he won the scoring title, the Knicks clinched their first Atlantic Division title since the 1993-1994 season.

Anthony also changed his game significantly last year. While his points per game decreased from the year he won the scoring title, his rebounds and assists increased.

Derrick Williams

Many thought Phil Jackson overpaid last year when he signed Derrick Williams to an approximately $10 million over two years. But Williams showed signs of the player everyone thought he should be in his first year with the Knicks.

Williams was drafted No. 2 overall and has never lived up to his expectations. This is the same player George Karl said that would be out-rebounded by a Coke Machine. However, Williams proved to be a solid role player for the Knicks.

Even though he was inconsistent, Williams posted decent numbers in a system that was not tailor-made for him. Expect Williams to have a larger impact in a Jeff Horneck run offense.

He may want to prove himself for another year with the Knicks, and if that’s the case, the Knicks should be happy if he opts in.

Guillero “Willy” Hernangomez Geuer

Willy Hernangomez was the New York Knicks’ 2015 second-round pick. Drafted at No. 35 overall, the Knicks acquired Hernangomez for two future picks and cash considerations. General Manager Steve Mills expects the Knicks to sign Hernangomez in the offseason, most likely because of his relationship to former Sevilla teammate and Knicks fourth overall pick in the same draft, Kristaps Porzingis.

At 6’ 10” and 250 pounds, Hernangomez can play both power forward and center for the Knicks.
