Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers need as much financial aid as they can get entering the 2016 period of free agency. Drafting two NBA-caliber players would be a nice way to help the roster, but the Clippers are attempting to win right now.

If the New York Knicks can offer cash for either the No. 25 or No. 33 picks, then Doc Rivers may be inclined to accept.

The Clippers have upwards of $64 million invested in Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and Chris Paul in 2016-17 alone. J.J. Redick and Paul Pierce are due just under $11 million combined in 2016-17, which brings the count up to roughly $75 million.

Throw in the myriad of player and team options, and the Clippers project to have roughly $10 million in cap space—not a lot to work with under the current salary cap boom.

The $94 million salary cap helps Los Angeles, as it’s $2 million higher than the projection. Adding more money by selling a draft pick to the Knicks could help the Clippers even more in a future situation.

Merely not having to pay the salary of one of two incoming rookies would help the Clippers maximize the minimal cap space they have.
