Con: Opportunity Cost

If the Chicago Bulls come calling, then Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis should be made off-limits. If the Bulls offer Derrick Rose for Anthony or Porzingis, then Phil Jackson should hang up the phone.

Having established that Anthony and Porzingis are untouchable in a Rose trade, the question beckons: how much would New York need to offer to get this done?

If the Knicks were to trade Porzingis for Rose, then Phil Jackson should fire himself on the spot. If the Knicks were to trade Carmelo Anthony for Rose, then the pursuit of immediate success would stall, even if the 2017 cap room would be appealing.

Simply going off of what New York currently has on its roster, trading for Rose would be no easy feat.

Robin Lopez would need to be included as the most established—and highest-paid—player on the roster after Anthony. Jerian Grant would likely need to be included to fill the Bulls’ void at point guard, and a draft pick would almost certainly be required as a part of the package.

That’s not a lot to ask for, but when the trade target has an extensive history of injuries, no deal is easy to make.
