The New York Knicks reportedly discussed the possibility of trading for Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose. Should team president Phil Jackson pursue this possibility?
Just when it seemed like another slow day at the office, the New York Knicks shook things up in a major way. With the 2016 NBA Draft looming, and free agency not far behind, the Knicks aren’t shutting the trade market out as an avenue to improvement.
That open-mindedness could take the Knicks directly to Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose.
The former league MVP is coming off of a season during which he averaged 16.4 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game. He did so on a slash line of .427/.293/.793, but seemed to find his rhythm late in the season.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the Knicks had internal discussions about the possibility of trading for Rose.
"The New York Knicks are looking to upgrade their backcourt, and one player on their radar is Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose. The Knicks have had internal discussions recently about trading for Rose, league sources tell ESPN."
That’s a stunning development, to say the very least.
Rose won NBA MVP and led the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals during a sensational 2010-11 season. Unfortunately, the past five seasons have been marred by injuries that have severely damaged Rose’s availability, production, and efficiency.
The question is, should the Knicks gamble on Rose being able to turn things around in New York?
