The New York Knicks need to improve at point guard. The stars may take priority, but the Knicks should give serious thought to signing restricted free agent Matthew Dellavedova.

The New York Knicks need to upgrade the point guard position. Head coach Jeff Hornacek and general manager Steve Mills have both acknowledged the need for improvement, and there are free agents with whom that goal can be achieved.

Though the front office’s search will be thorough, the general population seems to be overlooking the most practical option.

Most eyes have rationally shifted to Mike Conley and Rajon Rondo—the Top 2 point guards on the open market. Conley has helped the Memphis Grizzlies make six consecutive postseason appearances, and Rondo has led the league in assists on four different occasions.

Whether or not New York is able to land Conley or Rondo, signing restricted free agent Matthew Dellavedova should be a top priority.

Dellavedova has become one of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ most valuable role players. A true two-way player, he’s averaged upwards of 20 minutes per game in consecutive seasons.

Here are five reasons to believe Dellavedova would be worth the Knicks’ conceivably affordable investment.
