Shaun Livingston, Team Option

Position: Guard
Age: 30 (9/11/1985)
Slash Line: .536/.167/.860
Season Averages: 19.5 MPG, 6.3 PPG, 3.0 APG, 2.2 RPG, 0.7 SPG

One of the most valuable players on the Golden State Warriors is backup point guard Shaun Livingston. A positionally versatile guard with elite size, an outstanding midrange game, and defensive range, Livingston is the ultimate glue guy.

The finest evidence: Livingston led the Warriors to victory in Game 1 of the 2016 NBA Finals by scoring 20 points—the same total accumulated by Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined.

Livingston’s value as a glue guy was first established in 2013-14. At the time he became a full-time starter for the Brooklyn Nets, the team was 10-21 with its postseason aspirations quickly withering away.

Brooklyn proceeded to go 34-17 over its final 51 games, earning a record of 32-13 with Livingston in the starting lineup.

The unfortunate reality here is that the Warriors are likely to retain Livingston’s services. He’s due just $5,782,450 in 2016-17, which will look like absolutely nothing under the rising salary cap.

If Livingston somehow does hit the free agency scene, however, it’d behoove the Knicks to make a serious run at attaining his services.
