Just three years into his NBA career, Matthew Dellavedova is already earning his status as a glue guy. He’s a skilled offensive player who competes defensively and is willing to do the dirty work for his team.

If the New York Knicks manage to pry Dellavedova away from the New York Knicks, the team will be better because of it.

Dellavedova may not yet have the reputation of a glue guy, but that’s exactly what he’s becoming. He’s a ferociously competitive player who lays out for loose balls, embraces defensive challenges, and isn’t afraid to take a big 3 when his number is called.

Having already played in two NBA Finals, Dellavedova is one of the best possible free agency targets for the Knicks.

The Cleveland Cavaliers had a net rating of +10.0 with Dellavedova on the court in 2015-16—second on the team to LeBron James. That net rating dropped to just +2.1 when Dellavedova came off the court—a difference of 7.9 points per 100 possessions.

The Cavaliers’ offensive and defensive ratings were better with Dellavedova than without him, which should establish what he’s becoming: a glue guy.
