The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in signing free agent shooting guard Evan Turner. What would the pros and cons be of the Knicks signing Turner during the summer of 2016?
Over the past two seasons, Evan Turner has experienced an unexpected career renaissance. Long labeled a bust for failing to achieve star status after being drafted at No 2 overall in the 2010 NBA Draft, Turner is now one of the more coveted free agent shooting guards on the open market.
Multiple reports have revealed the New York Knicks as a team with interest in acquiring Turner’s services.
Turner shook some of the bust talk by becoming a prominent contributor for the Boston Celtics in 2014-15 and 2015-16. This past season, he averaged 10.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.0 steal on a slash line of .456/.241/.827 in 28.0 minutes per game.
According to Chris Mannix of CSN New England, one of Turner’s biggest fans is Knicks team president Phil Jackson.
"The team that might be after him the hardest is the New York Knicks. I’ve been told that Phil Jackson is a big fan of Evan Turner…I expect New York to make a run at Evan Turner."
If true, that’s quite the cosign.
Marc Berman of The New York Post recently reported that the Knicks are still interested in signing Turner. Nothing is imminent, but New York reportedly appreciates his versatility and old school approach to the game.
The question is, what would the pros and cons be of New York actually signing Turner to a contract during the 2016 period of NBA free agency?
