Knicks Rumors: Pros And Cons Of Pursuing Rajon Rondo
Pro: Proven Postseason Performer
One of the most intriguing aspects of what Rajon Rondo brings to the table is his uncanny ability to step up in the playoffs. With 94 games of postseason experience, Rondo has a large enough track record for one to believe in his ability to step up in big moments.
That bodes well for a New York Knicks team that’s hoping Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis can bring it back to the playoffs in 2016.
Rondo hasn’t played a meaningful playoff game since 2012, which sheds a discouraging light on this pro. It was in 2012, however, that Rondo recorded 44 points and 10 assists against the Miami Heat in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
For the full postseason, Rondo averaged 17.3 points, 11.9 assists, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.4 steals on 46.8 percent shooting from the field.
If Rondo can channel even the slightest measure of that level of play—and he had three out of four areas down pat in production in 2015-16—the Knicks can return to the playoffs. Once there, Rondo could prove invaluable.
At the very least, Rondo is the type of player who can play up to the level of his competition.

There’s no guaranteeing that the pros will outweigh the cons, but as the Knicks search for a point guard, there will be few on the open market better than Rondo.
