Con: Clashing With The Coach

Rajon Rondo isn’t a bad person. Rondo is an inquisitive mind who can often come off as combative, however, and there is a history of clashes with head coaches who attempt to change his usage.

If Rondo is to be signed by the New York Knicks, then the definitive cosign will need to come from head coach Jeff Hornacek.

During his time with the Boston Celtics, Rondo and Doc Rivers were reportedly at odds. Their relationship wasn’t entirely sour, but there was a consistent stream of reports stating that Rivers and Rondo had issues with one another.

It wasn’t until Rondo was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, however, that his Mexican standoff with Rick Carlisle soured the general population’s opinion.

Rondo didn’t like how Carlisle was using him, and Carlisle was in danger of losing his starting point guard. That culminated in Carlisle benching Rondo 10 minutes into Game 2 of Dallas’ Round 1 postseason series, and making him a healthy scratch for Games 3, 4, and 5.

With all of that being said, it’s worth noting that Rivers speaks highly of Rondo, and that the 30-year-old seemed to get along with mercurial head coach Gorge Karl during an otherwise hostile and tumultuous 2015-16 Sacramento Kings season.
