Knicks Rumors: Pros And Cons Of Pursuing Rajon Rondo
What would the pros and cons be of the New York Knicks potentially signing unrestricted free agent point guard Rajon Rondo?
As acknowledged by head coach Jeff Hornacek, the New York Knicks need to make an upgrade at point guard. The current group is solid, but it lacks the stability that teams need in the modern NBA.
Few free agents, if any, would solidify the position quite like Rajon Rondo.
Rondo is a former NBA champion with four All-Star Game appearances and four All-Defensive Team selections. This past season, he averaged 11.9 points, 11.7 assists, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 0.9 3-point field goals made on a slash line of .454/.365/.580.
According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, Rondo believes that he can elevate his game in New York.
"“I had a comment earlier about it, but if I put my mind at it, I think I can be good at anything,” Rondo told The Post. “The Lakers have proven you can have success,” Rondo said. “Even go back to the old Bulls. I think it’s about personnel and it’s about having the right guys. You need guys with a high IQ, who really know the game well to break down film and become great at it.”"
2015-16 was a stellar individual season for Rondo, but it wasn’t quite enough to eliminate the doubt and skepticism.
Rondo has a number of red flags to match the very obvious reasons for intrigue. Thus, as the Knicks approach free agency, team president Phil Jackson must do his homework on what Rondo actually provides—both positive and otherwise.
The following slides will offer a breakdown of both.
