One of the hottest topics of the 2015-16 season was how Rajon Rondo would fit in the Triangle Offense. Some hypothesized that he’d struggle due to the need for point guards needing to be able to space the floor, while others felt as though his basketball IQ would make up the ground.

Per Marc Berman of The New York PostRondo believes that he can make it work in the Triangle Offense.

"“I had a comment earlier about it, but if I put my mind at it, I think I can be good at anything,” Rondo told The Post. “The Lakers have proven you can have success,” Rondo said. “Even go back to the old Bulls. I think it’s about personnel and it’s about having the right guys. You need guys with a high IQ, who really know the game well to break down film and become great at it.”"

The introduction of Jeff Hornacek as head coach most certainly increases the appeal.

With Hornacek being introduced as head coach, the New York Knicks have shifted to a more modern approach to running an offense. That includes the embracing of the elevated importance of point guard play.

Thus, adding a three-time assists leader becomes significantly more intriguing than it originally was.

Rondo, who led the league in assists in 2012, 2013, and 2016, is close with current Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. Rondo’s presence would certainly increase the efficiency with which Anthony scores, and would likely do the same for Kristaps Porzingis.

Rondo remains a polarizing figure, but with point guard guru Jeff Hornacek as head coach, this could be a match made in heaven.
