Dwight Howard, Player Option

Position: Center
Age: 30 (12/8/1985)
Slash Line: .620/.000/.489
Season Averages: 32.1 MPG, 13.7 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 3.4 ORPG, 1.4 APG, 1.6 BPG, 1.0 SPG

Whether you love him or hate him, Dwight Howard is one of the most productive players at his position. Thus, while there are clear red flags, it’d be silly to ignore the type of value Howard could provide the New York Knicks with.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Howard is interested in coming to New York.

"Some of Howard’s friends have let it be known recently that the center would be interested in coming to New York as a free agent if he opts out of his current contract, league sources say."

Howard’s desire to play for the Knicks was also reported in early March.

Howard finished the 2015-16 regular season at No. 4 in rebounds per game. Howard also ranked No. 2 in field goal percentage and No. 3 in offensive rebounding, thus rounding out his overall value.

If nothing else, Howard can provide an efficient offensive impact with an elite presence on the boards.

Howard coming to New York would call many things into question, including the future of Robin Lopez. Lopez is the current starting center for the Knicks, and his $13.5 million average salary wouldn’t mesh with what Howard will be paid.

If the Knicks feel Howard is the superior option, multiple reports suggest he’d be interested in making the move to New York.
