Mike Conley has spent the past nine seasons running point for the Memphis Grizzlies. Memphis has made the playoffs in six consecutive tries, and Conley has played a defining role in every one of those appearances.

When asked if he’d be willing to leave the Grizzlies to sign with the New York Knicks, Conley stated that he will not rule anything out as a possibility.

In other words, the Knicks are in play.

Conley is a proven postseason performer who competes defensively, takes care of the ball, and provides a balanced offensive impact. He’s an above-average 3-point shooter, a crafty finisher with a great floater, and an incredibly efficient facilitator.

Conley finished 2015-16 with an average of 6.1 assists to 1.5 turnovers per game—good for the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the NBA.

The concerning aspect of Conley’s status as a free agent is a combination of his price tag and his health. Conley’s 2015-16 season was cut short by tendinitis in his Achilles—words that are concerning on their own, and terrifying together.

Conley makes absolute sense on paper, but one can’t help but feel concerned about a player who has tendinitis in his achilles.
