New York Knicks: Key Elements of Jeff Hornacek’s Offense
Flexibility
The most important thing to know about Jeff Hornacek’s offense is that it’s adaptable. There’s no uniform to how the offense is supposed to be run, which creates an intriguing opportunity.
If Hornacek introduces elements of the Triangle Offense to his system, he could perfectly accommodate the clearly flexible vision Phil Jackson has for the roster.
The entire strength of the offense is how versatile it is. Its intention is to run a play in a fast enough manner to maximize the strengths of its players before a defense can comfortably focus in on their weaknesses.
Thus, while it may seem as though Hornacek needs two point guards, he wasn’t the Suns’ front office—nor was he incapable of utilizing players who didn’t seem to fit on paper.
A shining example of Hornacek’s versatility as a coach is the manner in which he utilized Gerald Green. Green was an explosive dunk artist, but Hornacek helped him put forth the two best seasons of his career by constantly placing him in spots where he had an offensive advantage.
One can’t help but imagine that the likes of Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis will be able to take that coaching even further.
