4. Assertiveness

It’s foolish to fault an NBA rookie for not entirely imposing their will. Most are adjusting to a new pace or style of play, which makes the slow and progressive path one of rational thought.

In his second season in the NBA, however, Kristaps Porzingis will be expected to begin to impose his will.

Porzingis bordered on dominance when he was aggressive and on his game. He scored upwards of 25 points in five different outings as a rookie, had at least 20 in 14 appearances, and recorded 21 double-doubles.

That’s quite the showing from a 20-year-old who was expected to be a project player.

Regardless of whom the New York Knicks sign in free agency, Porzingis will need to take the next step as a scorer. A major part of that will be the improvement of his fundamentals, but it’s just as important for him to assert himself and create his own offense.

The following three steps will help him do so.
