Gerald Henderson has spent most of his NBA career playing shooting guard. He did so for the Charlotte Hornets from 2009 to 2015, and played a similar role for the Portland Trail Blazers in 2015-16.

Jeff Hornacek excels at utilizing undersized rotations, however, and Henderson could thrive at the 3 with the New York Knicks.

Henderson has never been a great 3-point shooter, but he converted a career-best 35.3 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc in 2015-16. He did so in a limited role that hurt his overall rhythm and efficiency, yet still managed to score at a quality level.

If Henderson can be signed as something of a 2-3 hybrid, he could help improve the second unit in New York.

A very good athlete at 6’5″, Henderson is a skill player who does a bit of everything offensively. He can play above the rim, get out in transition, strike from midrange—something Hornacek would ideally transform into a proficiency from distance—and is a good passer.

Henderson is a shooting guard, but in Hornacek’s offense, he can thrive as a backup 3.
