Pro: Facilitating

One of the most significant issues with the New York Knicks’ offense in 2015-16 was the absence of a facilitator. Carmelo Anthony did an admirable job of filling the role, averaging a career-best 4.2 assists per game.

After ranking No. 26 in the NBA in assists as a team, however, it’s quite clear that New York needs an actual facilitator to help orchestrate the offense.

Knicks fans may want a point guard who can facilitate, but Batum would actually alleviate pressure. He’s a very willing passer who can selflessly flick a switch between finding his shot and creating for others.

Batum certainly isn’t Rajon Rondo, but he’s a much better shooter than Rondo—and yes, that does play a factor in one’s value as a facilitator.

Batum will help facilitate the offense while providing a scoring touch that keeps opposing defenses honest. When running the pick-and-roll, Batum is just as much of a threat to knock down a jumper or attack the basket as he is to find the dive man.

Batum ranked No. 2 amongst shooting guards at 5.8 assists per game in 2015-16, and there’s reason to believe he’d maintain that production in New York.
