4. David West, Player Option

2015-16 Team: San Antonio Spurs
Age: 35
Slash Line: .545/.429/.788
Season Averages: 18.0 MPG, 7.1 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 0.9 ORPG, 1.8 APG

There’s a good chance that David West will accept his player option and return to the San Antonio Spurs. The reality is, he turned down a hefty sum of money in order to join a team that would enable him to compete for a championship.

If West wins his elusive first ring with the Spurs, it stands to reason that he could be open to joining another team, namely the New York Knicks.

West isn’t the All-Star he used to be, but even at 35 years of age, he has clear value to the Spurs. He’s been selfless in the sacrifices he’s made, and when his number has been called, West has risen to the occasion to improve San Antonio’s odds of achieving victory.

There’s reason to believe that he’d be able to do the same in New York.

West has one of the best midrange games in the NBA, regardless of position and age. He converted 48.6 percent of his midrange jump shots in 2015-16, and came in at a clip of 46.6 percent in 2014-15—two marvelous numbers with a sample size of more than 100 makes in each season.

If the Knicks can convince West to sign on for a year, they’d have a remarkably balanced interior attack with a veteran leader who could mentor to Kristaps Porzingis.
