5. Jeff Green, UFA

One could make a very strong case that Jeff Green will sign a contract that enables him to start for an NBA team. If Phil Jackson can convince him to take on the role of a sixth man, however, he could be a game-changing acquisition for the New York Knicks.

Green is a versatile offensive player whose skill set is tailor made for the Triangle Offense.

Green could be the Knicks’ Lamar Odom, to some extent, as a skilled forward who can come in off the bench and play both the 3 and the 4. He’s an explosive finisher around the rim, which should help the Knicks’ transition offense.

Derrick Williams accepting his player option would eradicate all hope of signing Green, but if he opts out, this move would be ideal.

Green hasn’t lived up to his star potential, but he has a high basketball IQ and a unique skill set. He can post up, space the floor, attack off the bounce, and get out in transition, and while none of those traits qualify as a go-to skill, they’re all utilizable.

Green could be New York’s Odom in the Triangle Offense, and that makes him a free agent worth seriously considering.
