The New York Knicks don’t need to sign a small forward. Nevertheless, the question beckons: who are the best available options?

The New York Knicks don’t need to sign a small forward. Carmelo Anthony has quietly become a genuine two-way player who led the Knicks in points, rebounds, and assists per game, and become a plus defender in 2015-16.

In the spirit of open-mindedness, however, one can’t help but believe that New York will be weighing all of its options.

Anthony has a no-trade clause that’s caused a great deal of speculation. Many have hypothesized that Anthony, who will turn 32 years old in May, will waive the no-trade clause and ask to be traded to a team that’s ready to help him win right now.

If that is to transpire, there’s certainly reason to believe that it would behoove New York to weigh other options.

New York’s bench was one of the worst in the NBA in 2015-16. If depth can be acquired in the form of a more reliable contributor, it’s hard to imagine Phil Jackson turning down the opportunity to find it.

Whether it’s a replacement or complement to Anthony, it’s worth considering the best small forwards available.
