One of the most understated and shocking facts in the NBA is that Dwyane Wade is 34 years old. That’s three years shy of the age Kobe Bryant retired at, and while Wade certainly looks like he has a lot left in the tank, there will be an understandable hesitation to give him a long-term contract.
One simply cannot rule Wade out as a possibility for a team hoping to return to the ranks of the contenders.
Wade plays with relatively restricted minutes, but he was active for 74 games in 2015-16, and averaged 19.0 points on 45.6 percent shooting. He’s still lethal in the halfcourt, as evidenced by his cracking the Top 25 in free throw attempts per game.
More importantly, Wade is a proven postseason performer with three championship rings and a Finals MVP award.
Wade has won titles as the featured player and the complementary piece, which creates inevitable value to a team in pursuit of an elusive title. He’s also the type of player who would thrive in the Triangle Offense as a slasher with lethal midrange and post games.
Wade and Carmelo Anthony are close friends, which should help them iron out any potential chemistry issues if they’re brought together.
