No available point guard better fits the Triangle Offense than Memphis Grizzlies standout Mike Conley. The 28-year-old floor general has made his name as a well-rounded contributor who’s comfortable playing in both on and off-ball situations.
The question is, can Conley overcome his recent string of injury woes?
Conley hasn’t endured a massive injury requires surgery, but he’s been brutally banged up over the past two seasons. Conley missed 26 games in 2015-16, primarily due to an achilles injury that has to create pause in the minds of all general managers.
Achilles tendinitis is a frightening combination of words, and one can’t help but think that New York will force him to undergo strict medical testing before even considering a contract offer.
If Conley’s achilles checks out, however, Conley be a massive acquisition. He’s a proven postseason performers who plays up to the level of his competition, can space the floor from all over the court, defends his position, and has experience playing in an offense centered around big men Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph.
If any point guard can simultaneously help Carmelo Anthony, Robin Lopez, Kristaps Porzingis, and the Triangle Offense, it’s Conley.
