Knicks: Top 5 Free Agent Point Guards To Consider

There’s a relatively low probability that the New York Knicks will find the point guard of the future in 2015-16. Most of the available options are starting-caliber, at best, and even the best of options have significant red flags that must be acknowledged.
If anyone can be regarded as a low-risk, high-reward type of player, it’s D.J. Augustin.
Augustin is unlikely to command a massive salary, which is the first reason to consider bringing him to New York for the 2016-17 season. He’s also one of the quickest players in the NBA, which would greatly improve the Knicks’ lackluster ability to create penetration.
According to NBA.com, the Knicks finished the 2015-16 regular season at dead last in points in the paint per game.
Augustin, a career 37.4 percent shooter from beyond the arc, would also help New York space the floor. He’s very capable of hitting the corner 3, having converted 40.4 percent of his attempts on said shots over the past three seasons, based on data compiled by NBA.com.
Augustin may or my not be the long-term answer, but after being traded to the Denver Nuggets, he averaged 11.6 points and 4.7 assists on a slash line of .445/.411/.819 in 23.5 minutes—production New York could’ve used in 2015-16.
