David Blatt Is An Option

The misguided consensus appears to be that Phil Jackson will only hire someone he has a long-lasting relationship with. That was never actually stated by The Zen Master, and this development is evidence enough.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the Knicks are considering David Blatt as a candidate to fill the coaching vacancy.

"One name that the Knicks are considering, according to league sources, is formerCleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt. Jackson views Blatt favorably, according to sources. It’s also worth noting that Blatt played basketball with Knicks GM Steve Mills at Princeton."

Blatt’s claim to fame is coaching the Cavaliers to the 2015 NBA Finals.

Blatt’s firing from the Cavaliers was one of the most shocking moments of the regular season. Cleveland was off to a 30-11 start to 2015-16, which followed his leading the team to a record of 53-29 and the NBA Finals a season ago.

Blatt and LeBron James never seemed to get on the same page, but the general consensus is that he’s a very good coach.

Blatt experienced a tremendous level of success coaching on the international scene. He led Russia to a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, and helped Maccabi Tel Aviv win the prestigious Euroleague Championship in 2014.

Blatt is very likely to get another shot in the NBA, and New York could be the place for him.
