According to multiple unnamed sources, the Daily Knicks has learned that New York Knicks owner James Dolan has forced president Phil Jackson to fire interim head coach Kurt Rambis after recent reports that players has lost faith in him.
Sources say that Dennis Rodman will be the new interim head coach for the reminder of the season. Rodman was a player under Jackson’s tutelage for the Chicago Bulls second three-peat, from 1995-1998, and is intimately familiar with the triangle offense.
Something that is OF COURSE a requirement if you want to be a head coach in New York with Jackson at the helm! Look no further than the tweet Jackson sent out following Fisher’s firing, describing his ideal head coach candidate for the Knicks.
Jackson elaborated on the meaning of his tweet the following day. (H/T to Marc Berman of the New York Post for quotes)
"“There’s a style that I’m looking for in coaches and in how you approach your players,’’“And it makes sense because I have a certain parameter of things that I believe and those things are sensical to me about taking care of your players and how to take care of an individual. Part of it is that players are looking to fulfill themselves as players, and that’s our job to nurture that as coaches. The other thing is about the leadership style. I just use that point too, of the leadership style. There’s some styles that are different. I like a style that’s a little more group-oriented.”“Not saying anything about Derek. He was part of my coaching teams for a number of years, so he understands that. But it just says something about the way we plan to play basketball and the way we wanted to look.”"
Apparently Rodman is the type of individual that Jackson is looking for to carry out his message of the triangle offense.
Initially Rodman threw his name out there on Twitter as a candidate for the Knicks coaching position, immediately following Fisher’s firing.
Many wrote off the tweet as a joke, but Rodman reaffirmed his conviction to becoming the Knicks head coach on TMZ shortly after.
"“I got the winningest record of all-time in NBA history.”“The first thing he probably going to ask me is, are you willing to coach Dennis. I’ll say well, I could say the same thing about Derek Fisher, but you know what, I have more charisma than anybody in the world. I’m always relaxed, at ease, I can get through the players like that.”"
And Phil Jackson AGREES! Dennis Rodman DOES HAVE THE CHARISMA! Maybe a little too much if you ask me… Nonetheless Rodman is now the Knicks interim head coach!
As for winningest record of all-time in NBA history, he might not have that but the teams he has played on has compiled a record of 757-359. That is a winning percentage of 67.8%! Of course it helped that he was on championship teams such as the “Bad Boys” Detroit Pistons and Michael Jordan‘s Bulls.
As for Rodman’s qualifications for being New York’s interim head coach, Rodman was a player-coach for the American Basketball Association‘s Long Beach Jam in the 2003–2004 season. “Dennis the Menace” became “Dennis the Teacher”, “Dennis the Mentor”, as he helped the team win the championship that season.

Additionally, Rodman’s management skills were in full display as he served as commissioner of the Lingerie Football League in 2005.
Furthermore Rodman’s leadership was shown as his fame with the Bulls got VICE access into North Korea for an basketball exhibition game. This led to the VICE’s accompanying crew to be the first Americans to meet the new North Korean leader Kim Jong-un! (This episode of VICE is MUST-SEE! It will blow your mind!)
New York only has a handful of games left in the season, but it will be interesting to see how the Knicks will respond to Rodman’s coaching.
How will the team respond to Rodman’s personality and charisma? Will Rodman’s management and leadership skills be enough to end the Knicks’ season on the right note?
The future is uncertain but I do know one thing, that this article is completely bogus. Happy April Fools’ Day from all of us at the Daily Knicks!
